With roots in Bira, South Sulawesi, the cradle of Phinisi boat-building, Captain Karyona’s life has been shaped by boats. A natural leader, he has worked in positions of responsibility over the last 20 years, sailing all around South-East Asian waters to some of the most remote places in Indonesia. Proud Captain of Nataraja since 2017, he has expertly steered his ship to the last frontiers of the Indonesian Seas, including the Forgotten Islands, Banda Sea, Triton Bay, Raja Ampat and Sumbawa.
